Our Oral Surgery Services

Tooth extractions

As a conservative dentist, Dr. Howard will always try to save your tooth when possible. Extractions may sometimes be required for teeth that are too damaged to save, to prepare for a procedure like a dental implant, or when your wisdom teeth don’t grow into your mouth properly.

We offer both simple tooth extractions and surgical extractions. You can trust Dr. Howard to provide you with the comfortable, gentle care you need. With tooth extractions at the Center for Advanced Dentistry, you can get out of pain, prevent complications, and take the first steps toward a healthier smile.

Dental implants

A dental implant is a small piece of titanium metal that’s surgically placed into the area where you’ve lost a tooth. Over time, the implant heals and bonds with your natural jawbone and functions as an artificial tooth root.

One implant can be used to restore a single tooth with a dental crown. However, Dr. Howard can also use multiple implants to support a dental bridge or even a full set of implant-supported dentures with All-On-4. If you’re looking for a permanent solution for missing teeth, dental implants from the Center for Advanced Dentistry may be right for you.

Bone grafting

If you want to get dental implants but your jawbone is too weak to accommodate them, Dr. Howard may recommend a bone graft. In this procedure, he will open up the gum and jaw tissue and place bone granules in the area. Over time, natural bone tissue will heal around these bone granules, strengthening the area enough for an implant.

Sinus lifts

Sinus lifts are necessary if you are getting a bone graft in the upper arch of your jaw. In this procedure, Dr. Howard will gently lift away the sinus lining from your jawbone. This provides him with enough room to perform a bone graft and strengthen your jawbone.

Bone ridge augmentation

Bone ridge augmentation is sometimes required to prepare for dental implants. After tooth extractions, there is sometimes a sharp, bony ridge left behind that can interfere with implant placement. In bone ridge augmentation, Dr. Howard will smooth this ridge down to ensure that everything goes smoothly with your implant surgery.

Chao pinhole recession surgery

Chao pinhole recession surgery is an alternative to traditional gum grafts for treating gum recession. In this technique, Dr. Howard will create tiny openings in your gums then reposition them to cover up the affected teeth. The final step is to insert collagen strips that will hold your gums in place as they heal.

Sedation Options For Your Comfort During Oral Surgery

At the Center for Advanced Dentistry, we know that getting oral surgery can be intimidating, even if you’re not normally nervous about seeing the dentist. That’s why we offer a wide variety of sedation options to keep you comfortable throughout oral surgery.

  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation – Laughing gas is a good choice for more minor surgeries. You will breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen that will make you feel relaxed, “floaty” and disconnected from what’s happening around you.

  • Oral conscious sedation – If you’d like a deeper level of sedation, oral conscious sedation may be the right option for you. You will take some pills a few hours before your appointment. Once they take effect, you will feel very groggy, tired, and relaxed. You may forget most of what happens during your visit, and you may even fall asleep.

  • IV “twilight” sedation Dr. Howard is an expert in IV sedation. This method uses similar drugs to oral conscious sedation, but they are delivered through an IV to maximize their effects. With IV sedation, you can safely sleep through your surgery at the Center for Advanced Dentistry. This makes it an ideal choice for complex and lengthy procedures like dental implants and All-On-4.
